TDL: If you could describe your playing as a food, what would it be?
TH: Mixed nuts! There is always a little bit of everything.
TDL: What attracted you to percussion?
TH: My father was a professional musician, I couldn't help myself.
TDL: What musical influences did you have as a child?
TH: Buddy Rich, Tony Williams, 3-Dog night.
TDL: What was your motivation to learn to play?
TH: I saw how music affected people and wanted to be a part of that process. I loved the feeling's that music produced.
TDL: How do you maintain your motivation to play?
TH: Partly by making a living, but on a more serious note, it comes from the enjoyment I get from playing and seeing all the happy faces in the crowd. That is what it is all about.
TDL: How important is emotion in music?
TH: Emotions is 100% of the music. If you don't have emotion, you don't have music, well good music anyway.
TDL: How does a person go about choosing an instrument?
TH: It picks you. You just need to be open and respond.
TDL: What is the number one element to becoming an established musician?
TH: Surround yourself with good, competent people with drive and passion. Be ready when your time comes, you might not get a second chance.
TDL: When given the chance to inspire musicians today, from all walks of life, what words of wisdom would you give them?
TH: If you love playing and have a passion for it, you will be ready for any situation. Be positive. Have a strong devotion and love for your dreams.......and go after them!
